Obituary - February 1953 Detlef O. Stelk, 59, a native of Hall County and a prominent farmer, died Sunday morning in a Grand Island hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Stelk, son of Wilhelm and Meta Stelk, was born Dec. 29, 1893, on the family farm southeast of Grand Island. The farm was homesteaded by his grandfather, Marx Stelk, one of the original settlers of Holl County. Detlef Stelk had lived all of his life on the home place. Mr. Stelk was a successful farmer and stockraiser and feeder. He was president of the Farmers Union Elevator and had held other offices in the Farmers Union organization. Mr. Stelk is survived by his wife, the former Silda Wagner, whom he married April 7, 1920 at Central City; three daughters, Mrs. Harry Diekman, Cairo Mrs. LeRoy Sievers, Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Robert Collier, Tucson, Arizona; one son Elmer of Grand Island two grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. Funeral services were held at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon in the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island with the Rev. Harvey Clark, pastor of St. Paul's English Lutheran, officiating. Burial was in Grand Island cemetery.
