Rockdale Reporter April 7, 2005 Beran Bill Beran, 90, of Thorndale died Thursday, March 31, 2005 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, April 3 in the Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Vickie Averitt of Trinity United Methodist Church in Thorndale officiating. Burial followed in the Pleasant Retreat Cemetery near Thorndale. He was born Feb. 14, 1915 in Travis County to Joseph K. and Tracy (Hagg) Beran. Mr. Beran was a resident of Thorndale for most of his life except for a brief nursing home stay in Rockdale. He ran the bell press for Centex Oil Mill in Thorndale for 20 years. Mr. Beran's hobbies included fox hunting and gardening. He liked to grow peppers and make hot sauce to give away to friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Karl, Joe, Henry, Emil and Toney Beran; sister, Anges Catchings. Survivors include two sons, Ray Beran of Rockdale and David Beran of California; brother, Pete Beran of Thorndale; two sisters, Frances Biehle of Thorndale and Sophie Hall of Tyler; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Pallbearers included Walter Ray Beran, Charles McCoy, Kenneth Biehle, Robert McCoy, Roger Scruggs and Billy Beran. Memorials may be made to Pleasant Retreat Church.
