Bio

Rene was born in 1911 to William Asbury and Annie Violet Hartis Gilbert. She was the first of 13 children. At about the age of four she was burnt severely over most of her body. She lost and eye in this fire. I remember her wearing a patch when I was a child. Rene was married 3 times. First to James Anderson with whom she had two children: Edith Joyce and James Marvin. Her second husband was Robert Ansohn Stewart with whom she had two more children: Virgina and Donald. Her third husband was Austin Hiram Stephens. He preceeded her in death in 1991. Autn Rene was an accomplished seamstress. She was a supervisor at Stockton in Dallas for many years. After retiring she sewed for private parties until her health prevented it.
