BERNT--William Bernt, 91, dies here; rites Tuesday William A. Bernt, 91 of 1365 32nd Avenue, died Saturday at Behlen Memorial Hospital. He had been ill the past six months. Last rites will be conducted by Rev. H.M. Rathkamp at 2 p.m Tuesday at McKown Funeral Home, where the body now lies in state. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. The son of the late John and Katherine Krebsbach Bernt, he was born Oct. 16, 1879, in Polk County. Mr. Bernt was married to Mary Hasselbalch Sept. 23, 1901, at Osceola. They resided on a farm near Shelby, and moved to Columbus about 40 years ago. He engaged in farming and carpentry work, and was a clerk for his son at Bernt Sport Shop here. Survivors include a son, Roy, Columbus; brother, Julius Bernt of Shelby; and sisters, Mrs. Adolph Grossnicklaus of Osceola and Mrs. Ella Smith of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife, on June 14, 1967; brother, Adolph Bernt; and sisters, Mrs. L.J. (Emma) Enyeart and Mrs. C.W. (Molly) Ballou. BERNT--Bernt Funeral - Services for William A. Bernt, 91 who died Saturday, were held Tuesday afternoon at McKown Funeral Home with the Rev. H.M. Rathkamp officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers were Leo Janssen, Jack W. Smith, Arno Engberg, Kenneth M. Bernt, Virgil L. Stone and Neal Hasselbalch.
