http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~neplatte/vitals/vitals1974.html The Columbus Telegram, August 17, 1974 BERNT - Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus for Roy Bernt, 62, of 1365 32nd Avvenue, who died Friday at Behlen Community Hospital following three months of illness, including brain surgery at Mayo Clinic last June 14. The Rev. Hugo Rathkamp will officiate and burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state after 1 p.m. Sunday until noon Monday at McKown Funeral Home, and from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church. The owner and operator of Bernt Sport Shop, he was the son of William and Mary Hasselbalch Bernt, born July 23, 1912 in Polk County. He attended Columbus High School and was married to Viola Janssen April 24, 1937 in Aurora. An avid sportsman, he was a member of Izaak Walton. He also was a memmber of the Chamber of Commerce and Trinity Lutheran Church. His widow, Viola, survives him. Preceding him in death were his parents, and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bernt of Columbus and Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hasselbalch of Shelby. Memorial are to be directed to Trinity Lutheran Memorial Fund.
