Sarah France Large, born in Grimes Co., TX - Daughter of Adam William Large and Nancy Miller . Sister of Caroline Cornelia , Cindrilla Isabel and Martha Irinda "Mattie" Large. Sarah married, 26 June 1873 in Milam Co., TX, Samuel Griffith Locklin , a son of Alteman Livingston Locklin and Mary Elizabeth Fokes . Mother of Leonora "Lee" , William Alteman "Babe" , Nola Maranda , Maude Louise , Leonard Louis , Nancy Myrl "Muvie" , Clifford Griffith "Cliff" , Theodore Francis "Rat" , Elmer Monroe "Bill" and Wyatt Zachory "Dude" Locklin. Sarah died in Thorndale, Milam Co., TX. ~~~~~~~~~~~~O~~~~~~~~~~~~ Cameron Herald March 7, 1940 Mrs. Sam Locklin, pioneer Milam county woman, died at her home in Thorndale Thursday night, it was learned here Friday by the Cameron Daily Herald. Funeral services were to be held at 3:30 Friday afternoon from the residence of her son, William Locklin with interment in the Locklin Cemetery near San Gabriel. Her husband, Sam Locklin, a pioneer, also survives. The Locklin family settled in Milam county more than a half century ago. The Locklin cemetery is the oldest cemetery in the county and bears the family name. Locklin "Granny Locklin" had died at her home in Thorndale after several years illness. She was an aged pioneer citizen of Milam county and was known and loved by all. Funeral services were conducted from the Thorndale Methodist church at 3:30 p. m., with the Rev. McGauhey and Rev. Louis Hunter, officiating. Following religious services at Thorndale the remains were brought to the Locklin cemetery a few miles from San Gabriel and buried Friday evening. A large number of people from this community attended the funeral in Thorndale. Friends and relatives from various places gathered in larger numbers to pay a final tribute. A host of relatives and friends survive. She was the mother of Mrs. W. J. Stigall and Len Locklin of this community. Mrs. Frank Guthrie, Mrs. Pearl Clark and son, Coke, of Coleman, are visiting in the Edgar Cast home, having been called here by the death of Mrs. Sam Locklin, sister and aunt of Mrs. Guthrie and Mrs. Clark. ~~~~~~~~~~~~O~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Rockdale Reporter and Messenger (Rockdale, Tex.) Locklin, 80, who died in Thorndale Thursday were conducted Friday afternoon at the Thorndale Methodist church by the Rev. J. E. McGauhey of Marshall, assisted by Rev. Louis Hunter, pastor of the church. Burial was in the Locklin cemetery, two miles south of San Gabriel. Mrs. Locklin, a member of one of the oldest families in this section had always resided in this section. About 30 years ago she moved to Thorndale where the family had since made its home. Survivors are her husband and the following children: Mrs. Will Stigall, of Davilla; Mrs. J. L. Porter, Belton; Mrs. J. R. Ellison, Austin; Mrs. Milford Phillips, Corpus Christi; L. L. Locklin, San Gabriel; Bill Locklin, Cliff Locklin, T. F. Locklin and Wyatt Locklin, of Thorndale; one aged sister, Mrs. Frank Guthrie of Coleman, and several grandchildren. A son, William (Babe) Locklin, preceded her in death.
