son of Stephen Compton "Pap" Hollis and Unknown mother; husband of Nancy Jane "Nannie" Maxwell Hollis Turnbow married 26 Jul 1908 Sherman, Grayson County, Texas; father of William Richard Cornelious Hollis; Susan Arilla "Rilla" Hollis; Randal Hollis; Bertha Mae Hollis; Amos Lee Hollis; Dee Raymond Hollis James came to Texas from Scott County, Arkansas with his aunt and uncle when they came to Hunt County. my Uncle Neal told me in an interview that when he was a child he remembered his dad had butchered a cow and was taking the meat around to neighboring farms selling it and when he came home with the wagon, a hound dog had followed the wagon to their house and they adopted the dog. James worked for the railroad until he was hurt when caught between the train and the door of the roundhouse. James' "Big Neal" last request was to be taken to the cemetery in a wagon pulled by a white horse and my uncle made sure this was done.
