Bio
Ardis was born January 22, 1931 in Webster County, Nebraska to Elwin and Lela Ruth (Drake) Shipman. She grew up south of Inavale, Nebraska and attended Red Cloud Senior High where she graduated at 16 and began teaching school. Ardis attended Kearney State Teachers College during the summer and taught rural country school for eight years. Three years in Nebraska prior to marriage and another five in Kansas after marriage. Ardis married the light of her life, Bill Brown on August 8, 1951. Ardis and Bill purchased their home next to Bill’s family home in Pawnee Township, Kansas. There they were blessed with two children, Jerry Dell and Janet Kae. Ardis and Bill became member of Womer Church in 1953 where they were also baptized. Ardis enjoyed being a Sunday schoolteacher, a youth fellowship leader and helping children learn the word of God. Ardis and Bill moved to Smith Center, Kansas in 1992 where they began attending First Christian Church. Ardis enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, and working in her beautiful flower garden. Ardis won several First-Place ribbons for her gorgeous dollies, quilts and flower arrangements. Ardis enjoyed spending time with her friends and was a member of The Golden Rule, Friendly Neighbors, Loyal Daughter, and many other clubs. She also enjoyed attending Bible Study at both Womer and First Christian Church. Ardis cherished her family, was a dedicated homemaker, and a loving wife. Ardis tried to live her life in such a manner that others might see the love of Christ reflected through her. Her desire was that all would know Christ as their Lord and Savior. Ardis was rarely seen without her doting husband, Bill. Ardis and Bill shared nearly 67 years of marriage, memories, and love here on Earth. May their love story continue for eternity. Survivors include her daughter Janet Brown of Salina, Kansas. Her son Jerry Brown of Smith Center, Kansas. Grandchildren Chris Brown from Russell, Kansas, Matt Brown and wife Alicia Brown of Smith Center, Kansas, Brandon Simmelink and wife Lisa Simmelink from McPherson, Kansas, and Jessica Tolson and husband Brad Reed from Salina, Kansas. Great grandchildren Hannah and Emma Reed from Salina, Kansas and Baylee and Bryant Simmelink from McPherson, Kansas. Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, the love of her life, Bill, sisters Viola Hanson and Jean Gilbert, brother Keith Shipman and Clifford Shipman.
