Bio

William was born near Slocum in Anderson County, Texas, the son of Abner Carroll and Nancy Trythenia Gilmore. He joined the Navy in 1926 and served on the USS McDermott DD 262. After his discharge in 1929 he went to sea in the U.S. Merchant Marines and served on oil tankers in WW2. Until his health prevented him from going to sea, he served on many different steamships as an engineer. He married Katherine Cunningham in New Orleans, LA and was the father of Charles E. Carroll
