John Taft served with Company D of the 26th New York Vol. Infantry during the Civil War. He married Henritta Colby on April 12, 1864 in Genesse County, New York. He and his family came to Nemaha County, Nebraska in about 1880. John Taft was born in Rutland, Vermont August 13, 1840 and died March 29, 1926, at the Milford Soldiers Home. He enlisted in the army in 1862, with Company D 26th NY Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged in 1864. He was married to Henrietta Colby, who with five children survive him. One son is A. E. Taft of Milford. He was a member of the Christian Church. The Rev. T. J. Overholt conducted the funeral services Wednesday afternoon. Seward Journal, Seward, NE, Thurs, April 8, 1926
