Frank J. Hilmer was born in Oldenburg, Germany, and immigrated with his parents and two elder brothers to the United States in 1885. The family settled in Platte County, Nebraska, where Frank attended school. In 1914, he was married to Thiebe Alena Oltmans, and thereafter they resided northwest of Columbus. Six sons and three daughters were born to this union. One son was still born and their eldest, Edward, died at the young age of 31, in a house fire. Mr Hilmer was a farmer, served on school and township boards for many years and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus. Besides his wife and seven children, he was survived by sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, two brothers (Jake and Carl) of Albion and two sisters Anna Siebler and Helen Laudenklos, also of Albion. The Monroe Booster's obituary stated : "Mr. Hilmer was a good neighbor and friend and he was well liked by all who knew him." Burial Date : May 5, 1965
