Bio

The Daily Herald, Provo, Utah, 03 Feb 2000 Lehi - Norman Ray Winters, age 74, Lehi, Utah, returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 1, 2000. He was born May 28, 1925, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, to Arthur Ray and Norma Irene Sundberg Winters. After serving two years in WWII, he returned home and married the love of his life, June La Ferne Barnes. They were married April 4, 1953. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on July 22, 1963. During Norman's tour of duty he was honored with the Purple Heart and Gold Leaf Cluster, After Norman was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, he was honorably discharged from the Army. Norman was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held leadership positions in the Sunday School, Elder's Quorum, and High Priest Group. He worked in the Provo Temple and served many years in the cub scout organization. Norman was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and motorbike riding. He loved spending time outdoors with his family and grandchildren. His grandchildren brought many hours of joy into his life. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, June B. Winters, Lehi; sons, Norman B. (Robyn) Winters, Vernal; Kevin Ray (Holly) Winters, Vernal; Weston Guy (Lori) Winters, Gunnison; daughters, Colette W. (Chuck), Stillman, Layton; Connie W. (Michael) Parkes, American Fork; 27 grandchildren; brothers, Alden (Geri) Winters, South Jordan; Gaylon (Merm) Winters, Pleasant Grove; sisters, Helen Collier, Vernal; Susan (Cliff) Prestwich, St. George; Mary (Keith) Brower, Magna; Norma (Dee) Winters, Lindon. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leon; sisters, Bonnie and Kathy; a granddaughter, Taycee Rae Jean Winters; and 11 half brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5, 2000, at 11:00 a.m. in the Lehi 18th Ward LDS Chapel, 1850 N. 1450 W, Lehi, where friends may call from 9:00 -10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment in the Lehi City Cemetery under the direction of Wing Mortuary, Lehi. Contributed by Kent Yocom
