James Carlene “Doc” Johnson Going home services for James Carlene “Doc” Johnson will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Gravel Hill Baptist Church with Brothers Anthony Eaves, Arlen Smith, and Brian Thompson officiating. Committal service will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery under the direction of White Oaks Funeral Home, Oakdale. Military rites will be conducted by the Fort Polk Honor Guard. Doc, 86, of Pitkin, entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 29, 2018 in Cravens. He was born February 2, 1932 in Cravens to the union of James Francis Johnson and Lona (White) Johnson. He graduated from Pitkin High School in 1951. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Army serving his country during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 290 in Rosepine. Doc was a faithful and devoted member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church. His prayers were often sermons in themselves. His contagious laugh was one of a kind and he was never afraid to speak his mind. He worked as a forester beginning at Calcasieu Paper Mill and finishing out his career with Boise Cascade in 1991 totaling 36 years of service. He was a distinguished cabinet maker. Adoring his family, he has been quoted saying he wore out ten vehicles watching and following his children and grandchildren participating in sports. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Betty Carlene (Sweat) Johnson; his parents, France and Lona Johnson; sisters Jackie Maricle and Bobby Mullens; brother Robbie Johnson. Those left behind to cherish his memory are: his sons, Ricky Red Johnson (Yolanda), Reggie Johnson (Carla), Shane Johnson (Sandi), and Jamey Johnson (Betty Jo) all of Pitkin, James Casey Johnson (Reagan) of Anacoco; daughter he never had, Landa Johnson (James) of Pitkin; two brothers, Pauline Johnson of Goodrich, Texas and Jimmie Johnson (Gwen) of Pitkin; three sisters, Ruby Burrows of Dickerson, Texas, Betty Featherly of Texas City, Texas, and Anita Ashmore of Deville; grandchildren, Dawn (Jamie), Dana (Tommy), Chase (Chelsea), Josiah, Amber, Bo, Logan, Hannah, Garrett, Josslyn, Cy, Faith and Adri Anna; great grandchildren, Dylan, Lainey, Kash, Lydia, Harper, Hermione Grace, and Lincoln Blair; and a host of family and friends. Pallbearers to serve will be Ricky Johnson, Reggie Johnson, Shane Johnson, Jamey Johnson, Casey Johnson, Chase Johnson, Logan Johnson, Josiah Johnson, Jamie Perkins, Tommy Wisby, Dylan Perkins, Garrett Edwards, Kash Wisby, and Cy Johnson. Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Jimmy Lou Johnson, James A. Johnson, Bryant Dousay, Todd Strother, Jimmy Moore, and the Men of Gravel Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be held at Gravel Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 2 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2018 in the church.
