James Joseph Turek, age 61, of Essex, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 21, 2018 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital. James was born October 10, 1956 in Ord, Nebraska the son of James Frank "Jimmie" and Georgia Blanche (Vasicek) Turek. He graduated from Ord High School in 1974 and attended Technical School in Hastings, Nebraska. He studied Auto Body Repair. James was united in marriage to Dawn Layher on April 23, 1977 in Ord, Nebraska. One daughter, Kelli was born to this union. James moved to Red Oak, Iowa in the 1980's and was united in marriage to Tammy Graham on July 29, 1996. Three girls were born to this union: Jessica, Jacey, and Taylor. Over the years, he worked for Don Hindmarsh Chevrolet, Hawkeye Ford, a body shop in Omaha, and was currently working for Burlington Northern Railroad and was living near Essex, Iowa. His hobbies included collecting antique electrical insulators, restoring old cars, watching Husker Football, enjoying the outdoors and tinkering in his shop. Preceding him in death were his parents; his life partner: Esther Miller; sister: Darlene Severance; and sister-in-law: Patricia Linker Turek. Survivors include his children: Kelli Pendergraft and husband Matt of Red Oak, IA; Jessica Turek of Essex, IA; Jacey Turek of Red Oak, IA; and Taylor Turek of Stanton, IA; step-children: Chandra Osthoff of Red Oak, IA and Jennifer Whitehill-Hoyt and husband Doug of Shenandoah, IA; grandchildren: Jacob Pendergraft, Mitchell Johnson, Lillian Johnson, Ilana Johnson, and Benjamin Pendergraft all of Red Oak, IA; brothers: Milton Turek and wife Kathryn of Ord, NE and Jerome Turek of Ord, NE; and many other relatives including Merlyn Hale, Trevor Hale and family, and Kimberly Jones and family all of Red Oak, IA. A celebration of life service will be held 11 AM Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in the Ord, Nebraska Cemetery. Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
