Helen Wegener, 95, of Columbus -- formerly of Humphrey -- died Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Meridian Gardens in Columbus, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Humphrey with Father Patrick A. McLaughlin celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at the church with a 4 p.m. Christian Mother's Rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Helen was born Jan. 3, 1923, in Platte County to Bernard and Anna (Babel) Preister. She attended school at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Cornlea. Helen worked in Omaha, Nebraska, prior to her marriage to Earl Wegener on June 12, 1947, in Cornlea. Helen and Earl farmed near Cornlea and with retirement, moved to Humphrey. They later moved to Meridian Gardens in Columbus. Helen was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, enjoyed quilting, making wedding cakes, and was a member of many card clubs. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Helen is survived by her daughter Joyce (Richard) Strnad of Columbus, son Don (Ginger) Wegener of Norfolk, daughter Nancy Killham of Columbus, daughter Pam (Larry) Kauffman of Columbus, daughter Jane (Terry) Pfeifer of Madison, son Sam Wegener of Norfolk, son Bill (Shirley) Wegener of Platte Center, son Ted (Jackie) Wegener of Humphrey, 31 Grandchildren, 68 Great Grandchildren, sister JoAnn Rossell of Omaha, sister Bernette Hamling of Beaver Crossing, brother Dick (Gerry) Preister of Lindsay, sister-in-law Mardell Preister of Humphrey and sister-in-law Millie Preister of Lindsay. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Anna Preister, husband Earl Wegener, grandchildren Amy Pfeifer and Spencer Wegener, son-in-law Jerry Killham, Sisters Angela Sand, Bernice Preister, Imelda Melcher, and Sister Bernice Preister OSF, and brothers Art, Jim, Alvin and Leon Preister.
