The Rev. James F. Novotny will officiate, with burial in the Holy Family Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Monday at 9 a.m. at the church. He died Feb. 5, 2015, at Madison. Memorials can be given to the donor's choice. Arrangements are with Duesman Funeral Chapel in Humphrey. Jim was born Oct. 15, 1930, at Cornlea to Bernard and Anna (Babel) Preister. He attended Sacred Heart School in Cornlea. On June 22, 1954, he was united in marriage to Mildred M. Prothman at St. Edward. They raised their family while farming and attending to their dairy cow operation near Lindsay and Newman Grove. In 2005, they retired to Lindsay. Jim served in the U.S. Army from Jan. 22, 1952, to Dec. 23, 1953. He was a member of the Lindsay American Legion Post and Newman Grove VFW Post. Jim actively served on the Platte County Agricultural Society governing board, Platte County board of supervisors, served for 15 years as a 4-H club leader, worked with the Holy Family-Zimmatic plant project and in 2003 received the Platte County Hall of Fame Outstanding Farmer award. His wife, Mildred, survives as do their children and spouses: Ann and Larry Hemmer of Humphrey, Paul Preister of Newman Grove, Miriam and Frank Keller of Humphrey, Jeff and Ann Preister of Newman Grove, Russ and Mary Preister of Norfolk, and Sara and Brett Sims of Omaha. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers and in-laws Angela Sand, Helen Wegener, Mardell Preister, Jo Ann Russell, Sister Bernice Preister O.S.F, Bernadette Hamling, and Richard and Geraldine Preister. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Vincent and Joline Preister, sisters Bernice, Imelda and Dennis Melcher, brothers Arthur and LaRose Preister, Alvin Preister, Leon and Shirley Preister, in-laws Gordon Russell, Edwin Hamling, Charles Sand and Earl Wagner.
