Berger, Joseph F. In our last issue we spoke of Mr. Frank Berger taking his son, Joe, to San Antonio for treatment for some complaint which had puzzled the local physicians. Shortly after arriving in the Alamo city Joe grew worse and it was evident his condition was critical. A specialist was finally called in, and he diagnosed the case as sarcoma of the brain. He stated that an operation could be performed, but that the case was hopeless. Joe grew worse rapidly, and at 10 o'clock Saturday morning the spirit of this noble young man passed unto the One who gave it life. The remains were prepared for burial, and on Sunday afternoon were brought here for interment in St. Michael's cemetery, Rev. J. Szymanski, rector of the church, performing the burial service. Hundreds of people met the body at the train, and on every face was evidence of the keen sorrow felt over the death of this very popular young man. Jos. F. Berger was 23 years old at the time of his death, survived by a father and mother, four brothers and five sisters. Up to a short time ago he clerked for Herder & Klimicek of this city, and his gentlemanly deportment, attention to business, and lovable disposition won for him hundreds of friends throughout this section. He was a fine young man in every respect, and his death is deeply and sincerely deplored. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the bereaved family in their sorrow.
