Bio

Joe Ben Macalik, 80, passed away on February 10, 2018. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Joe Ben was born in Ennis, Texas, to the late Joseph "Joe" and Christine (Salik) Macalik. He lived in Ennis and attended Ennis High School. His first job was at McClain’s Grocery in Ennis in 1953. Joe Ben later went to work for H.L. Peterson Company and during his time there, built 50 to 100 silos on dairy farms and feedlots. On August 17, 1957, Joe Ben married Helen Maliska. In the Spring of 1963, Joe Ben began his lifelong career in farm equipment sales at Todd Imp. Co., later known as Lotspeich Bond in Ennis. He went on to sell tractors at Lyle Truck and Tractor in Waxahachie from 1975 to 1984. In 1984 he went to work for Ellis County Equipment in Ennis as a John Deere salesman. In 1990 he went to work for Waxahachie Equipment in Waxahachie until his retirement in March of 2016. Retirement didn’t stop him from continuing to work through March of 2017. Between selling tractors and spending time with his family, Joe Ben also farmed cotton and wheat, raised cattle, tended a vegetable garden, and repaired farm equipment in his shop. He was always just a phone call away for a needed part or to help a farmer out in the field with a piece of equipment. He also loved attending Ennis Lions football games. Joe Ben was a member of and served in many capacities through the years with, St. John’s Catholic Church, KJT, Knights of Columbus, and SPJST. He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Christopher Kelly and Kady Marie Bell; brothers, Daniel and Anthony; and sister-in-law, Joanne Macalik. Survivors include his wife, Helen; son, Gary Macalik and his wife, Valerie; daughters, Sharon Kelly and her friend, Dwight Koch, and Kathy Jaramillo and her husband, Mike; grandchildren: Andrew Macalik and his wife, Erin, Erika Allen and her husband, Dylan, Jamey Nixon and her husband, Tim, Cody Bell ,and Olivia Jaramillo; great-grandchildren: Henry, Liam, Stanton, Thea, Samuel and Abby; sisters, Mary Ella Gibson and Christine Mokry and twin sister, Josie Grmela; brother, Gerald Macalik; other relatives and many friends.
