Daniel Edward Macalik, 74, passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014, in Ennis, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2014, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2014, in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Father John Dick as celebrant. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Daniel was born in Ennis, Texas, to the late Joe and Christine (Salik) Macalik. He grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School. Daniel went on to receive his Peace Officers Certificate from Navarro College. On January 23, 1960, he married Margie Jaska and they made their home in California, Ennis, Yuma, AZ, North Carolina, and back to Ennis in 1969. Daniel served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp in Vietnam receiving a Silver Star. He was honorably discharged in 1969. He was an independent, long haul truck driver and tractor mechanic. He was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, VFW of Ennis. He enjoyed piloting his Cessna 172, and working on and restoring antique clocks. Survivors include his wife of over 54 years, Margie J. Macalik; sons, Gorden Macalik and wife, Barbara, and Tim Macalik and wife, Lisa; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers: Joe Ben Macalik, Gerald Macalik and Anthony Macalik; sisters: Josie Grmela, Mary Ella Gibson and Christine Mokry; other relatives and many friends.
