Bio

Our Lord Jesus called Mary Sue Dayton, 64, home to heaven on February 3, 2018. Mary Sue was born September 19, 1953 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Lloyd A. Dayton and Elwyn (Elwa) V. Woodson Dayton. Cancer took her from this world way too early. Mary Sue attended schools in Lawton – Lincoln Elementary, Central Junior High, and Lawton High School graduating in 1971. She attended Cameron University and University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish in December 1974. She earned her Master’s Degree from Texas A&M International. Mary Sue followed her dreams moving to various places in the United States living in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, and even Abu Dhabi. She taught Spanish, English, Journalism, was a Vice Principal and Principal, and a Director of English as a Second Language. She taught Spanish to a multitude of students in Lawton (Lawton High, Tomlinson, and MacArthur), Duncan High School, as well as Comanche (her first teaching position). She taught her students more than the subject matter, she loved them and taught them respect and a love for life. She even sponsored two Spanish speaking exchange students early in her career. Mary Sue loved her puppies. She was a very talented, artistic person. She expressed her talents through singing in the choir, playing the piano and organ, and doing photography. She loved being a part of mission trips and teaching bible schools. She loved shopping with sisters usually resulting in some shoe buying. Mary Sue is survived by Jim Deatherage of the home and one son, Philip Champouillon of Winnemucca, Nevada. She is also survived by her mother, Elwa Dayton, Lawton, three brothers – Darrell and Loretta Dayton, Bobby Dayton, and Neal and Bonnie Dayton, all of Lawton. She is survived by four sisters – Linda and Don Daigle, Houston, TX, Elaine and Gene Simmons, Geronimo, Marilyn and Rick Kitzrow, Lawton, and Debbie and Charles Duggar, Duncan. Mary Sue loved her nieces and nephews – Leesa Rosenbaum, Mikie Salazar, David Simmons, Mark Simmons, Brent Dayton, Chad Dayton, Todd Dayton, Bryan Kitzrow, Emily Kitzrow Price, Shannon Arrington, Brandi Riccitelli, and all of their spouses, children, and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Dayton, an infant brother, David Dayton, and grandparents – Alger and Hazel Dayton, Paul and Sophia Traughber, and Elwyn Woodson. Mary Sue did not want a funeral. A private memorial will be held to remember and celebrate her life.
