Funeral service for Elwyn V. “Elwa” Dayton will be Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist East with Rev. Doug Passmore, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Elwyn Venittia Woodson Dayton, age 97 years, ten months, and one day, went home to be with her Lord and Savior December 7, 2018. Elwyn (Elwa) was born February 6, 1921, to Sophia Irene (Rhodes) Woodson and the late Elwyn Woodson in Comanche County, Oklahoma. Elwa’s father passed away five months prior to her birth. Sophia married Paul Traughber when Elwa was three years old. Elwa grew up in the Lawton area east of town and attended Lawton Schools, but during her high school years they moved to several oil field towns. She attended school in Hardin City and then graduated from high school at McLish High School in Fittstown, Oklahoma in 1939. Elwa married Lloyd A. Dayton on December 25, 1941, in Lawton. At the time of their marriage she was employed at Corwin Insurance Agency. Shortly after their wedding, Lloyd was inducted into the Army Air Corps where they moved to Tacoma, Washington, and later San Bernardino, California. At the end of World War II they moved back to Lawton where they established a home with two children and grew their family to eight children. Elwa spent many years doing volunteer work for the PTA at Lincoln Elementary School where all eight of her children attended school. She was a homemaker and loving mother. She was an expert seamstress and made many outfits for her own children as well as many other people. She taught all five of her daughters to sew. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Lawton until retirement. After retirement, she lived in Kingston, Oklahoma where she was a member of First Baptist Church, Kingston. After moving back to Lawton she was a member of First Baptist East Church, Lawton. Elwa leaves behind seven children and their spouses – Darrell and Loretta Dayton, Lawton; Linda and Don Daigle, Houston, Texas; Elaine and Gene Simmons, Geronimo; Bobby Dayton, Lawton; Marilyn and Rick Kitzrow, Lawton; Debbie and Charles Duggar, Duncan; and Neal and Bonnie Dayton, Lawton. Elwa’s grandchildren are Leesa Rosenbaum, Mikie Salazar, David Simmons, Mark Simmons, Brent Dayton, Chad Dayton, Todd Dayton, Bryan Kitzrow, Emily Kitzrow, Philip Champouillon, Shannon Arrington, and Brandi Riccitelli. Great-grandchildren are Justin Bradley, Kasie Wyatt, Tami Johnson, John Salazar, Jeremy Salazar, Jordan Bethel, Adam Simmons, Dayton Simmons, Hudson Simmons, Carter Dayton, Jacob Dayton, Caiden Street, Collin Street, Cruz Dayton, Jon Kitzrow, Bekah Kitzrow, Josh Kitzrow, Maddox Swietek, Sage Anton, Kristopher Anton, and Luca Riccitelli. Great-Great-Grandchildren are Amiee Bradley, Steven Wyatt, Benjamin Wyatt, Jack Salazar, and Davie Jo Bethel. Elwa is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister Bette Thrift, and two children – David Andrew and Mary Sue
