Donald L. Doherty, 67, passed away surrounded by family and beloved friends on Thursday, December 14, 2017, in Dallas, Texas. Donald was born in Ennis, Texas to the late Homer Lee and Laura Bell (Wilhoite) Doherty. He grew up in Ennis and attended Ennis High School. On September 19, 1970, he married Sharon Faye Mikel. Donald served his country proudly in the United States Army in the infantry in Vietnam and Grenada. During his 21 years of service and obtaining the rank of First Sergeant, he received multiple commendations including The Bronze Star Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a Senior Jumpmaster and expert marksman. Some of his duty stations included: Fort Bragg, Fort Sill, Germany, Vietnam, Grenada and Fort Benning. After his service in the military, he went to work for the United States Postal Service for 25 years retiring from the Ennis Post Office. He was a member of the Ennis VFW. Survivors include his wife of over 47 years, Sharon Doherty; sons: Daniel Doherty and his partner, Andrea Dozier, and Keith Doherty; daughter, Juanette Prachyl and husband, Marty; grandchildren: Nicholas Prachyl, Arielle Prachyl, Bradley Doherty, Koby Doherty, Brandon Doherty, Kloe Doherty, and Ethan Dozier, along with special adopted grandson, Fabian Guerrero; brothers: Homer Doherty and Jimmy Doherty; sister, Ruby Cooper; other relatives and many friends.
