Edith was born in Anderson Co, TX to John Robert and Mandy Mae Fletcher Gossett. Her parents are buried in Fields Chapel Cemetery. She was living in Lolita in Jackson Co, TX at the time of her death in Port Lavaca, Calhoun Co, TX. She shares a stone with her husband, Martin Luther Ashley. She was survived by her husband of Lolita; two sons, Benny Ray "Ben" Ashley of Athens and Bobby Dale Ashley of Ganado; four daughters, Billie Jean Ashley Padon and Becky Lynne Ashley Hutson, both of Edna, and Bonnie Gail Ashley Coleman and Brenda Nell Ashley Benton, both of Midlothian; five sisters, Lucille Congleton, Novina Main and Johnnie Colbert all of Palestine, Sue Yelverton of Spartanburg, SC and Ophelia Camp of Athens; one brother, Layman Gossett of Diboll; and 18 grandchildren. Her obituary appeared in Palestine Herald-Press, Wednesday, 28 February 1990.
