ORD — Bessie M. Hulinsky, 87, of Ord passed away on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at the Valley View Senior Village in Ord. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. John Kakkuzhiyil will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Bessie Mae was born Sept. 17, 1930, on the family farm near Comstock to Ben L. and Kathryne (Heeren) Shepperd. She received her education in Nebraska and Iowa and graduated from Comstock High School in 1947. While in high school, Bessie received teacher training and following high school she taught school in Valley County. Bessie was united in marriage to Eldon Hulinsky on March 27, 1951, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Burwell. The couple farmed in the Geranium Township in Valley County, west of Ord. In 1984, they sold the farm and moved into Ord. Bessie did house cleaning and worked in the laundry department at the Valley County Hospital. She most enjoyed being a baker at Casey’s, a job she proudly held for over 25 years. Bessie was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, traveling and attending Polka dances with Eldon. Bessie was an exceptional cook and baker and will be remembered for her delicious kolaches. Her family was most important to her. She instilled the love of education in her family and was very proud of all their accomplishments and their service in the United States Military. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Lay of West Plains, Mo., and Annette Hulinsky of Grand Island; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lyle Hulinsky of Grand Island and Ben and Janet Hulinsky of Westmoreland, Kan.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eldon, who passed away on April 8, 2014; a brother; Clayton Shepperd; and four sisters, Joyce Norton, Darlene Shepperd, Gail Irene Dockhorn and Grace Hruby.
