COMSTOCK — Grace Mary Hruby, 90, of Comstock passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Kearney. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord. The Rev. Josh Brown will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Grace Mary was born March 10, 1925, on the family farm near Comstock to Ben L. and Katherine (Heeren) Shepperd. Her family included a brother, Clayton, and four sisters, Gail Irene, Joyce, Bessie and Darlene. On May 3, 1943, Grace was united in marriage to Joseph J. Hruby. The couple was blessed with seven children, John, Eleanor, Alan, Pat and Patricia (Trish), Mike and Janet. The family made their home east of Comstock where they farmed and raised livestock. Grace was told by the government that she would never work a day in her life, but she was the hardest working woman. She milked cows, put up hay, walked the pastures to tattoo new calves, and cared for the hogs, baby pigs, chickens, ducks, momma cows and baby cows. Her work was in the house caring for seven children, and also in the farm fields. She also ran the daily farm errands, getting parts, shopping, and doing the bookwork. When her parents and Joe’s parents became ill, Grace found the time to care for them. Grace was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Saint Wenceslaus Altar Society. She enjoyed embroidering and quilting. Grace made many keepsake quilts for the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Patricia of Elgin, Alan and Charlene of Hansen, Pat and Vicky of Comstock and Mike and Joyce of Ord; three daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor and Bill Lueck of Ord, Patricia (Trish) and Larry Wheeler of Kearney, and Janet Hruby of Comstock; 29 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Bessie Hulinsky of Ord. Welcoming Grace to heaven are her parents; her husband, Joe; a granddaughter, Brenda Hruby; great-grandson, Cole Nealon; her brother, Clayton Shepperd; and three sisters, Joyce Norton, Darlene Shepperd and Gail Irene Dockhorn.
