Bio

Clinton LaMar Hurst died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Utah Valley Hospital after a short illness. His family will miss him dearly. LaMar was born June 19, 1936 in Declo, Idaho, to Winfield and Arvella (Thorne) Hurst. He graduated from Declo High School in 1954. He then attended Ricks College for two years. LaMar served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central Atlantic States Mission from 1956 to 1958. Upon his return, he married JoAnn L. Phillips on September 11, 1958. They had seven children, and niece Gretchen joined their family at eight years of age. They raised their family in Burley, Idaho. LaMar worked at Morgan and Lindsay in Declo and Garrett Freightlines in Burley before he joined the Cassia County Sheriff's Department in 1979. He also managed the LDS Burley Stake church farm for many years, which gave him an opportunity to live his dream and do what he grew up with - farming. Upon retiring in 1998, he worked for a time at King's Wholesale as a truck driver. LaMar and JoAnn served in the Australia Sydney South mission from 2003 to 2005. They moved to Lindon, Utah, in 2016. LaMar missed Idaho and longed to return to his beloved home state. LaMar is survived by his wife, JoAnn; his eight children, Kim (Candi), Ray (Lorie), Kent (Darla), Carey (Darin) Perkins, Drew (Allison), Karlene (Lindsey) Altom, Vernal (Sara), and Gretchen (Darby) Newton; as well as 36 grandchildren; and 17 ½ great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Norman Hurst; and one sister, Belva Henscheid. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Declo Stake Center. Burial will follow at the Declo Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, 1350 E. 16th St., in Burley, and beginning at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church on Wednesday.
