Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Wednesday, 2 June 1920 Mrs. Ida Johanna Mathiesen was born on May 23, 1866, on the old homestead of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Lassen, four miles south of this city, and passed away May 31, 1920, at the age of 54 years. She was united in marriage to Mr. Detlef Mathiesen on August 26, 1881. Mr. Mathiesen preceded her in death on Nov. 26, 1913, and a son, Robert, passed away March 3rd of this year. She is survived by four sons and one daughter, Mrs. James Brady of this city; Fred of Rawlins, Wyo.; John of North Platte; Edward and Detlef, who reside at the home on East First street, as also by five sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Margaret Obermiller, of Farwell; Mrs. Anna Shoemaker, of Bashaw, Canada; Mrs. Agatha Sweeney, of South Tacoma, Wash.; Mrs. Lydia Wright, of Hastings; Mrs. Evelyn Bushman, of this city, Harry and John Lassen, of Canada, and Sherman and Conrad Lassen, of this city. Mrs. Mathiesen had been a patient sufferer for the last two years and had been confined to her bed for the past six months, various complications setting in. She was a member of the Rebecca lodge. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the English Lutheran church on West Second street, Rev. Michelmann officiating.
