Mr. John Venson King John Venson King was born in October of 1852 in Tennessee according to United States Federal Censuses and he was a son of Jesse King (1820 Tennessee - ) and Sarah Jane Savage (1821/25 Tennessee or Alabama - ). Venson King was the sixth born of twelve and second son of his parents. He married at least twice. John Venson King married Miss Martha Jane Barker on July 03, 1870 in Tennessee (Tennessee, State Marriages, 1780-2002, Names: M J Barker and V King.). Venson and Martha Barker were the parents of at least eight children. Venson King married Mrs. Talitha Johnson Hawkins (1863 Arkansas - 1924 Texas), a widow and second wife of Mr. Elijah Hawkins. Venson and Talitha were married in Ellis County, Texas on April 20, 1893 and they were the parents of two children. Talitha Johnson and Elijah Hawkins were the parents of at least four children who survived to adulthood. Elijah and his first wife had four children. Talitha reported on the 1900 United States Federal Census that she was the mother of ten children with five living. Venson King was enumerated on the 1920 United States Federal Census of Justice Precinct 2, Tarrant County, Texas on January 20, 1920. According to a great-granddaughter of Venson King and Martha Jane Barker, Venson died in 1920 in Tarrant County, Texas. However, no death certificate has been found in Texas Death Certificates. Talitha Johnson died on December 27, 1924 and according to her death certificate she was widowed. Therefore, one can conclude that Venson King died after 20 Jan 1920 and before December 27, 1924. Some King-Taylor descendants remember a story about the funeral home records being destroyed by a fire. Someone in the family had a receipt from the funeral home but that record has been lost.
