Joseph Hilger Dies; Funeral Services Monday -- [obituary published Nov 1, 1952; Columbus, Nebraska] Joseph D. Hilger, 77, a retired farmer, died about 4:30 a.m. today at his home, 1810 Twelfth street, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Bonaventure Catholic church with the Rev. Fr. Roch Hettinger, pastor, officiating. Burial will be made in the Catholic cemetery. The body will be in state at the Gahan Funeral home from noon Sunday until 4 p.m. when it will be taken to the family home, there to like in state until the hour of the services. Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the family residence. Mr. Hilger was born at Hamburg, Ia., on Oct. 14, 1876, the son of Henry and Anna Victor Hilger. He married Myrtle Murphy at David City on April 24, 1900, and after residing at David City for a time, they moved to Cedar Rapids where they farmed for many years. They came to Columbus about 15 years ago. Survivors are: his widow; eight children, Lawrence of Cedar Rapids, Fred and Donald of Waverly, Ia., Joe of Omaha, Mrs. Mary Morgan of Kimball, Mrs Josephine Siemek, Raymond and Anthony, all of Columbus: four brothers, Albert and Leo of David City, Theodore of Omaha, and Harry of Elgin; two sisters, Mrs. Pete Hiller of Bellwood and Mrs. William Kosch of Shelby; 22 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
