William was the son of Henry Jones and Frances Robbs. His mother died when he and his older brothers were young. In about 1839, Henry remarried and the family lived in the Rising Fawn area of Dade County, Georgia. When William and his older brothers brothers were young men they moved on to Lawrence County, Missouri. In the late 1850's, eldest brother Richard moved back to Georgia, joined the Confederate Army in July 1862 and died in October in East Tennessee. William and brother Edward stayed in Missouri, fought for the Union and survived the war. In 1857, William married widow Mary Helen (Truitt) Baldwin. They had three children; Martha Washington, Henry J. (1860 MO - 1864), and Thomas Watson Jones (1868–1936). LAWRENCE COUNTY CHIEFTAIN, May 9, 1901 William Jones was born in East Tennessee, Monroe County, June 2, 1832 and came to Missouri in 1852. He married Mrs. Mary Baldwin on Sept. 30, 1857. They had three children, Martha W., Boy died at age 4, "Thomas W. Jones and now Mrs. Em Stockton are left to mourn their loss of a loving father." Was soldier in Civil War, died at home of daughter Mrs. Em Stockton, May 2, 1901, 68 years, 11 months. Mary Jones, his wife, died June 6, 1868. Buried "Shilo" Dade County.
