Thomas was the son of William W. Jones and Mary Helen Truitt. His burial record gives Cobb Co., Alabama as his birthplace. He married 1st in 1888 Myrtle Stockton, she is buried at Shiloh Cemetery in Dade County. He married 2nd in 1895 Sarah R. "Sadie" Hinkle.
