Richard was the son of Henry Jones and Frances Robbs. He was born in Roane County, Tennessee. Richard married Sarah Allison. They lived first in Dade County, Georgia, then in Lawrence County, Missouri, then again in Dade County, Georgia. After Richard's death, Sarah and the children moved back to Lawrence County, Missouri, then later on to Texas. The exact date and location of Richard's death is uncertain. One date from an Allison family researcher is Oct. 13, 1862 in Dade County, Georgia, but the location is questionable as his unit was then in Kentucky. Richard's widow Sarah gave October 29, 1862 as his death date on the pension record, and his unit was then in East Tennessee. The most likely date of death is October 29, 1862, possibly of disease (typhoid or measles). Oct.11 - passed Harrodsburg, halted at Camp Dick Robinson Oct.14 - passed Bryantsville and Lancaster Oct.15 - marched toward Bigg Hill Oct.18 - reached London and camped at Laurel Bridge Oct.20 - arrived short of Cumberland Gap Oct.21 - crossed Cumberland Gap Oct.22 - passed through Cumberland Gap Oct.23 - crossed Powell's River and Tazwell Oct.24 - crossed the Clinch River Oct.25 crossed Cedar Ford and marched through Blain's (Blaine's) Crossroads aka Blain's X Roads Oct.28 - moved on Emory Road to Lenoir's, Tn Oct.29 - passed Copper Hill (Ridge?) Oct.30 - arrived at Lenoir's Station Nov.18 - moved by rail to Chattanooga Civil War - CSA Army of Tennessee Pvt Co D & 1st Sgt Co K 39th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment "Dade County Invincibles" _______________________________________________________________________ Answer to inquiry about Confederate burials - In the Unit records and reports it notes that there were deaths from illness in route back to Chattanooga. If Richard died at Lenoir Station he would be lost to time and not in a place that we have been able to locate. If he died at Charleston, Tn, another stop for this regiment, we know the location of the burials but are still looking for all the names at this time. But if he is at Silverdale near Chattanooga, Tn, there is some help here as we have been working the reports and records of this period for the Army of Tennessee to find all that were buried there.
