Bio
Raymond Karel, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died peacefully Friday, October 14, 2016, at his home in Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 20, 11:00 A.M. at St. Isidore Catholic Church with Father Joe Miksch celebrating the Mass with lunch following. Interment will be in the Clarkson Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the Gass Haney Funeral Home with a rosary service at 6:00 P.M. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Isidore Church stained glass window fund or family choice. Raymond was born September 11, 1928, near Howells, Nebraska, to Emil and Anna (Uher-Brazda) Karel. He graduated from Howells High School, Howells, Nebraska. He married Marcella Eichholz on November 8, 1949. They farmed by Clarkson, Nebraska, until moving to Columbus in 2010. Raymond was a successful farmer and loved watching his crops grow. He also raised cattle and hogs. Raymond used to enjoy fishing and hunting. He also used to love to polka dance and play the harmonica. He enjoyed watching "The Price is Right" on TV while relaxing in his recliner. He will be dearly missed. Raymond's wife, Marcella, passed away on September 17, 2016.
