The Howells Journal (Howells, Nebraska) 10 Mar 1966, Thu Page 2 Funeral Services For Emil J. Karel The funeral of a life-long Clarkson area resident, Emil J. Karel, 82, was held Tuesday morning, March 8, at SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Clarkson. Mr. Karel passed away at the Schuyler Memorial Hospital following an illness of two months. Burial was in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church cemetery at Heun. Emil Karel, the son of Joseph and Katherina Hausner Karel, was born May 1, 1884 in Colfax County, Nebraska, on a farm near Heun. He grew to manhood there, receiving his education in Colfax County rural School District 48. Following his marriage to Magdalena Evert on November 15, 1912 at St. John Nep. Church in Howells, the couple established their home on a farm a mile from the place of his birth. Mrs. Karel passed away in 1914. He married Anna Brazda on April 10, 1926 and continued to reside on the same farm until the couple's retirement to Clarkson in 1950. He leaves the widow, who is presently hospitalized at the Schuyler Memorial Hospital following a hip fracture eight weeks ago; two sons, Otto Brazda, Howells and Raymond Karel, Clarkson; two daughters, Mrs. Emil (Helen) Kucera and Mrs. Richard (Wilma) Barta, both of Howells; eight grandchildren; one brother, Adolph Karel, Howells; and one sister, Mrs. Fred (Anna) Brichacek, Schuyler. Preceding Mr. Karel in death were his parents; first wife, Magdalena; brothers, James, Joseph, Jerry, Amos, John and Frank and sisters, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Hamsa, Sr., and Mrs. Milo (Emma) Svoboda. Two brothers and a sister died in infancy.
