Bio
Marcella Karel 85, of Columbus, Nebraska, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Prairie Village Retirement Center. She put up a brave fight against cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, September 22 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Joe Miksch celebrating the Mass with lunch following. Interment will be in the Clarkson Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 21 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home with a rosary at 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church. Memorials may be directed to AseraCare Hospice, St. Isidore Church/stained glass window fund, or family choice Marcella was born November 29, 1930, in Meta, Missouri, to Louis and Marie (Rehak) Eichholz and graduated in 1948 from Dodge High School, Dodge Nebraska. She married Raymond Karel on November 8, 1949. They farmed by Clarkson, Nebraska until moving to Columbus in 2010. Marcella was a hard working farm wife; she raised ducks and chickens, plus worked for many years at the Colonial Manor in Clarkson, NE. Marcella enjoyed reading, playing the piano accordion, organ, singing, and loved to polka dance. One of her favorite singers was Patsy Cline and loved to sing her music. She was an excellent cook with baking being her specialty. Her kolaches, cinnamon rolls, strudel, pies, angel food cake, horned rolls, dumplings and sauerkraut were just a few of the family favorites. No one could make chicken salad like Mom! She enjoyed sewing and made beautiful prom dresses and clothes for her daughters. As time went on her passion was in making quilts, baby blankets, and embroidered towels for her family and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Marcella is survived by: Husband—Raymond Karel of Columbus, NE Son—Keith (Alda) Karel, Columbus, NE Grandchildren—Mikayla (Josh) Mueller, Shawn Karel, Marina Karel Great grandchild--Valentina Mueller Daughter—Connie (Dave) Thomas, Columbus, NE Grandchildren—Kristal Thomas Great grandchildren—Spencer, Kade, Blake, and Klay Thomas Daughter—Charlene (John) Perry, Leawood, KS Grandchildren—Allison and Grace Perry Sister—Pat (Rainold) Horejsi, Schuyler, NE Marcella was preceded in death by: Parents—Louis and Marie Eichholz Grandson—Klayton Thomas
