Cono J. Simonetti, 87, an area resident since 1994 formerly of Islip Terrace, Long Island, died on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at his home. Born in Brooklyn on April 15, 1925, he was the son of Emelio and Philomena (Brando) Simonetti. Cono proudly served our country as a Corporal in the US Army Air Corps during WWII and was employed as a welder for United Technologies Corp. after working at Airborne Instruments Laboratory for 28 years. He was a parishioner of St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. He enjoyed going to Hopewell Hot Bagels everyday to visit with his friends. He moved to this area so that he could be closer to his grandchildren and was always there to help them with all that they did including karate, dance and little league. On September 3, 1950 in Maspeth, Cono married Eleanor Krol who predeceased him on February 20, 1986. He is survived by his daughter, Joan Howley of Hopewell Junction and his son John C. Simonetti of Islandia; his grandchildren, Kelly O'Neill and Matthew O' Neill and his wife Claudia; his great grandson Kaden O'Neill; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 1-3 and 5-8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Coram.
