Carl Andreas Suckstorf was born December 4, 1883, in Albertsdorf, Fehmarn, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, the son of Hans and Emma (Palmgreen) Suchsdorf. He came to the United States to Thurston County, Nebraska in 1909, where he worked on an Indian reservation farm. He then moved to Wayne and Cedar County, until he moved to Pierce County. The surname Suchsdorf became Suckstorf in the United States. He married Emma Erickson on February 25, 1911, at Christ Lutheran Church in Pierce. Together they farmed near Pierce, until the moved to a farm seven miles west of Pierce in 1918, where they have since lived. In spite of his age, he was very active about the farm and always insisted on doing his share of the chores. Emma preceded him in death on April 30, 1961. He had been a patient at Norfolk since November 30, but had expressed the desire to be home for Christmas. On Saturday morning he worsened and returned to the hospital where he passed away. Surviving are two sons, Martin Suckstorf and Clarence (Winell) Suckstorf, both of Pierce; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Georg Suckstorf and one sister, Caroline Furst, both in Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one daughter in infancy and one brother, August Suckstorf. Three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death in Germany.
