Bio

Elmer Stoller, a resident of Independence, Oregon died on Tuesday, March 29th in Salem Hospital. Elmer was born on October 18, 1929 in Portland, Oregon the son of Abe and Maggie Stoller. He attended Beaverton High School. Elmer married Geraldine Linder on February 21, 1953. They have celebrated 61 years of marriage together. They lived in the Bethany/Cedar Hills area. Elmer and his parents raised turkeys in Portland. Elmer and Geraldine settled on their farm in Independence in 1970. Elmer raised turkeys there from 1970 until 1992 for Norbest Turkey in West Salem. He was awarded Oregon Turkey Grower of the year in 1992. He also farmed wheat, grass seed, and other crops. Elmer was dedicated to farming and his family. Elmer received Polk County Outstanding Farmer of the year in 1997 from the Polk County Farm Bureau. Oregon State University presented Elmer the Diamond Pioneer Agricultural Career Achievement Registry for his significant contribution in Agriculture for long term farming. He set a great example of a strong work ethic. He cared deeply for others and always helped if someone was in need with his kindness and generosity. Elmer served Southwest Polk County Rural Fire Protection District Board from 1981 until 1993. Elmer attended Oak Grove Community Church and Salt Creek Baptist Church. Elmer loved old cars and attending the area pancake breakfast and car shows. He loved his family. Elmer enjoyed mowing, feeding and tending to the livestock, and the rush of the busy harvest season. Elmer especially enjoyed gatherings and barbeques with family and friends. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Stoller-Oleman; sons, Mark (Shirleen), Kurt (Brenda), Glen (Shelly); along with 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine on September 2, 2014; brothers, Wilbur, Harvey & Earl; sisters, Margaret & Elsie. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 11:00 am at Salt Creek Baptist Church. Graveside Service will be on Sunday, April 10th at 2:00pm at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, Oregon. Visitation will be on Thursday and Friday from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm in Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Community Church or Salt Creek Baptist Church Memorial Fund for the Missionary Program in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center who is caring for the family.
