Val Gene Jones, 86, was the fifth of twelve children born to George Henry and Margaret Virginia “Maggie” (McGill) Jones, born on May 3, 1929 in Thackerville, OK. He passed from this life to his heavenly home on March 22, 2016. Val Gene married Delma Jean “Jeanie” (Shaffer) Jones on October 27, 1947 in Gainesville, TX. He was a model husband, exemplary father, and loving granddad. Pops loved his family and was a steadfast friend. Val Gene was always helping neighbors, widows, children, and anyone in need. He was active in many community organizations and projects including the Kiwanis. In 1968 he was awarded the Kiwanian of the Year. He taught junior boys Sunday School, was a Royal Ranger and Youth Leader, and a church Deacon. Originally of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, later, the Northwest Assembly, and became a builder and founding member of CrystalRock Cathedral. In 1991, he retired from Total Refinery after 40 years of service. He operated units as General “A” Operator and finished his career as the Scheduled Maintenance Supervisor. Val Gene enjoyed an active life that included ball-playing, water-skiing, rope jumping, cross-country motorcycle trips, vacationing with travel trailers, elk hunting, horse back riding, beekeeping, and cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son and twin daughters; brothers Jack, Earl, David, Ted, and George Henry Jones, Jr.; and sister Joyce McKay. Survivors include his wife Jeanie of 68 years, of the home; sons Ron Jones and wife Cheryl of Dallas, TX and Rick Jones of Bowmanville, Canada; grandchildren Gene Christopher Jones and wife Allison of Chicago, IL, Catherine Elizabeth “Cassie” –or as Pops called her “Cassie Jane” and her fiancé Joshua Crochet of Denver, CO, and Jason Sutterfield and wife Sarah of Denver; great-grandchildren Ella Grace and Ryan Jones, and Clara, Jude, and Heidi Sutterfield; sisters Ruth Johnson of McKinney, TX, Sally Garcia and husband Robert of Ft. Worth, TX, and Dolly Bone of Thackerville; brothers Bill Jones and wife Claudia of Drumwright, OK and Bob Jones and wife Donna of Thackerville; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews. Pallbearers are Charles Buck, Todd Davis, Randy Doyal, Bill McFatridge, Curtis Moore, and Tommy Tucker. Honorary pallbearers are Freeman Blankenship, Ronnie Burns, Donnie Collins, Bob Harris, Ortrey Hawley, Dr. Jack Holmes, Gary Keeton, Elbin McKay, Lowell “Joe” Moore, Sam West, Waymon Woodley, and retirees of the Bell, Vickers, Total, and Valero Ardmore refineries. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Craddock Memorial Chapel with the Reverend H.H. Davis officiating. Graveside service will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park with the Reverend Winston E. Shaffer officiating.
