Graveside services for George Jones, Jr. of Thackerville, Okla., are set for 2 p.m. Monday, October 21, 2013, in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, Okla., with Randy McFarland officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta. Born December 3, 1924, at Thackerville, the son of George Henry Jones and Maggie Virginia McGill Jones, Mr. Jones passed away Saturday, October 19, in Lake Country Nursing Center, Marietta, at the age of 88. A resident of Love County most of his life, Mr. Jones attended school at Thackerville. He and Ruth Bond were married at Thackerville on April 8, 1944. George was a veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Navy. A farmer/rancher, he also was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad for more than 30 years, retiring as yardmaster. He enjoyed his cattle as well as all of his farm animals. Mr. Jones was very actively involved in the Love County Junior Livestock Show for many years. He was also a member of the Thackerville Community Church of Christ. Preceding him death were his parents; daughter, Virginia Jones; son-in-law, Ira G. Burkhart; granddaughter, Denise Hollar; four brothers and a sister. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Jones of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Shirley Jones and Danny and Sue Ann Jones, all of Thackerville; a daughter, Betty Jo Burkhart of Marietta; three brothers and sisters-in-law, ValGene and Jean Jones of Ardmore, Okla., Bill and Claudia Jones of Drumright, Okla., and Bob and Donna Jones of Marietta; three sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth Johnson of McKinney, Texas, Sally of Fort Worth, Texas, and Dolly and Jim Bone of Marietta; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Casket bearers will be grandchildren, Megan Hollar, Brian Burkhart, Cody Jones, Nathan Jones, George Jones and Billy Jones. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
