Albin Anton "Champ" Dlabaj, 85, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2016, in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Father John Dick as celebrant. Entombment will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. Champ was born in Ennis, Texas, to the late Frank and Mary (Valek) Dlabaj. He grew up in Ennis and attended school in Crisp and Telico. On December 30, 1952, he married Mildred Holy and they made their home in Ennis. Champ served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp serving during the Korean War where he earned two Purple Hearts. He worked for ten years for Ennis Business Forms in the carbon plant and was a plumber working for Bank of America until his retirement from there in 1992. Champ was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, KJT, American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed deer hunting, polka music and camping. He was also a proud member of the Chosin Few. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dlabaj; six brothers; and five sisters. Survivors include his wife of over 63 years, Mildred Dlabaj; daughters, Susan Wunderlich Campbell and husband, Phillip, and Peggy Spurgeon and husband, Larry; sons, Steven "Gulash" Dlabaj and wife, Connie, and Timmy Dlabaj and wife, Michelle; ten grandchildren: seven great-grandchildren; sister, Elsie Rackley; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Dlabaj; other relatives and many friends.
