Charlie farmed and worked as a maintenance mechanic at Leggett and Platt where he invented a machine to put the metal border on bedsprings, and Cody Manufacturing, both in Ennis, until his retirement. At one time, he co-owned, with his brother, a service station in Bristol, Texas. Charlie was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Ennis, S.P.J.S.T. fraternal organization, and the Ennis Chapter of the V.F.W.
