"Dorothy Ann (Ludvik) Kavan, 87, of Lincoln, NE formerly Morse Bluff, NE, passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016, at The Monarch in Lincoln, NE. She was born August 14, 1928 to Rudolf and Agnes (Jakub) Ludvik at Weston, NE. Dorothy grew up in the Weston and Wahoo, NE areas. She attended rural school in Weston and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Wahoo. She married Melvin John Kavan on September 14, 1948 at Wahoo. They operated a farm near Morse Bluff, and cared for a Registered Brown Swiss dairy cattle herd. In 1965, they were featured as the Farm Family of the Week on WOWT. She was a homemaker, enjoyed helping on the farm, did the farm secretary work, gardening and working in her flower garden. She was known for creative cooking and developing her own recipes. In 2011, one of her recipes won a recipe contest and was published in the All Across Nebraska Cookbook as the Morse Bluff representative. She was a member of the Heritage Club, past member of the Saunders County N.F.O. and the Brown Swiss Breeders Association. In the past she was a sponsor for 4-Hers at Aksarben and the Nebraska State Fair and a chapter mother for North Bend F.H.A. Dorothy served on the Bohemia Precinct Election Board for several years. She was a Neo-Life distributor. She was preceded in death by husband, Melvin, a daughter, Angela Ann Kavan, parents, brothers, Leonard (died in infancy), Rudy and George Ludvik, sisters, Mary Ann Jonhson and Agnes Kavan, brothers-in-law, Lloyd Johnson, Albert Kavan, and Ernie Blatny, sisters-in-law, Lillian Ludvik, Norma Kavan, Irene Blatny, and Delores Nitz and nephew, Michael Williams. Dorothy is survived by daughters, Mary Jane Kavan and Laurie (Steve) Lindgren of Lincoln, grandchildren, Angela (Luke) Bates, Seth (Maria) Lindgren of Lincoln and Scott Lindgren of Omaha; sister-in-law, Nancy (Jim) Williams of Morse Bluff, brothers-in-law, Norman Kavan of Colon, Donald (Karen) Kavan of Morse Bluff, and Jack Nitz of Fremont and many nephews and nieces. Funeral service will be 11 AM, Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend, NE. The Rev. Scott Jensen will officiate. Visitation on Thursday from 9:30 AM to 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial at Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, the Arthritis Foundation or Killian Hill Cemetery." Moser Memorial Chapel, North Bend, Nebraska.
