Melvin J. Kavan, 83 years, of Morse Bluff, NE died Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at the Autumn House in Lincoln, NE. Melvin John Kavan was born December 19, 1928 in Morse Bluff, NE to Albin C. and Mary (Pacl) Kavan. He attended rural grade school and Morse Bluff High School. Melvin married Dorothy Ann Ludvik on September 14, 1948 in Wahoo, NE. The couple farmed near Morse Bluff. In the past, he raised registered Brown Swiss dairy cattle, beef cattle and purebred hogs. He was one of the first in the area to practice land conservation. He did custom fieldwork. He also worked for the Wahoo NFO Livestock Collection Point and Hynek Construction of Morse Bluff. He assisted the North Bend Veterinarian with farm calls. Melvin was a member of the Morse Bluff Volunteer Fire Department, A.N.B. Heritage Club, past member of the Saunders County N.F.O. and Saunders County Cattle Feeders Association and the Brown Swiss Breeders Association. He was a salesman for Farm Craft Feed Company. He served on the Co-op nominating election committee and is a past sponsor for 4-Hers at Aksarben. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dorothy; daughters & son-in-law, Mary Jane Kavan and Laurie and Steve Lindgren all of Lincoln, NE; brothers, Norman Kavan of Colon, NE and Donald & wife, Karen Kavan of Morse Bluff, NE; sisters, Delores & husband, Jack Nitz of Fremont and Nancy & husband, James Williams of Morse Bluff; 3 grandchildren, Angela & husband, Luke Bates, Seth & wife, Maria Lindgren all of Lincoln and Scott Lindgren of Omaha. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Angela Kavan; infant sister, Mary; brother, Albert Kavan, Sr.; sister & brother-in-law, Irene & Ernie Blatny; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann & Lloyd Johnson, Norma Kavan and Rudy Ludvik. Funeral service will be at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Jerry L. Kracl will officiate. Burial will be in the Killian Cemetery near Morse Bluff, NE.
