Lilburn E. Hajny, 82, of Danville, passed away suddenly Thursday, Feb. 11, 2016. Lilburn was born March 2, 1933, in Fairfield, Neb., to Edward and Margaret (Vap) Hajny. He attended school through the 12th grade in Nebraska, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. Lilburn served during the Korean War, spending most of his time in Germany, and later receiving the National Defense Service Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. Upon his return from the service, Lilburn was a farmer for quite some time in Nebraska, then moving to Illinois where he raised livestock. After moving to Danville, Lilburn became a landlord, buying, fixing up and renting houses in the Vermilion County area. Lilburn married Elizabeth Joyce McCarty on Jan. 11, 1964, in Nebraska, and she preceded him in death in June of 2010. Survivors include a son, Scott (Bonnie) Hajny; three grandchildren, Thomas, Michael and Katie Hajny; a handful of brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
