Bio

Sigurd Duane Medhus, 86, beloved father and husband, passed away Feb. 6, 2016, in Henderson. Born March 1, 1929, in Leeds, N.D., his family later moved to Portland, Ore., and he attended Grant High School, graduated in 1950 from Oregon State University with a B.S. in technology and business, and was active in Delta Upsilon Fraternity, ROTC and the Rally Squad. In 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Estella Samuelson. After college, Sigurd was hired by General Electric. During his 26-year tenure, he was an accountant, auditor, financial analyst, treasurer, general manager, chief financial officer and director in New York and Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He joined Hoffman-LaRoche Inc. in 1976. He served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and Board member in New Jersey. In 1980, he was appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer for American Express. In 1983, he was chief finance officer and director for US Industries. In 1986, he served as chief financial officer for Olin Corporation, then took early retirement in 1989. His wife, Dolores, passed away in 1998. Sigurd was also a board member for the Lutheran Brotherhood, a fraternal benefit society. He was a highly respected family and businessman and a true gentleman who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Williams-Medhus; his sister, Audrey Sorg; eight children; four stepchildren; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Green Valley Lutheran Church, 1799 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson, NV 89075. Reception to follow.
