Bio
Dorothy Rose Petrosky-Mulvey passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at the age of 74 in Double Oak, Texas, after battling cancer for ten years. She was the last of eight children born to Walter and Vlasta Petrosky on January 4, 1939, in Eagle Lake, Texas. Dorothy graduated from Columbus High School in 1957. She earned her degree as a registered nurse from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in El Paso, Texas, in 1960 where she was elected student body president in her senior year. She met her husband Philip through nursing classmate Genora Daniels. Philip and Dorothy married in 1960 and raised four children. After she retired from the Veterans Administration in 1997, Dorothy and Philip moved to Double Oak, Texas, to live closer to their children and grandchildren. Mom was an excellent cook and seamstress, sewing most of her own and her children’s clothes. She loved to garden, read, and argue politics. She had strong arms, a warm lap, and a generous heart. She will be missed terribly. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Eleanor and Lilly;and her brothers Lee, Albert, and Walter, Jr. She is survived by her husband Philip; her brothers Simon and Leonard;and her children Kathy, Debbie and her husband Mike Griffin, Philip, Jr., and Chris and his wife Natalie. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Noah and Laine Griffin, and Madison and Gracie Mulvey. A Catholic mass will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 18, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 1602 Bowie St., Columbus, Texas. A rosary service will be at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 17, with visitation from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Henneke Funeral Home, 1515 Montezuma St. in Columbus.
