Bio

Katherine E. Pesek, known as Kitty to her family and friends, passed away on December 6, 2015. Kitty was born in Jourdanton, Texas on March 5, 1927. She was the youngest child of Elizabeth (Kallus) Pesek and John T. Pesek. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Victor. Kitty is survived by her brother John Pesek of Ames, Iowa, niece, Cindy and her husband, Phillipe Vandeweghe and their two daughters, Natalie and Courtney, niece, Rebecca and nephew, Brian. Kitty was graduated from Jourdanton High School in 1944. She immediately embarked upon studies in medical and healthcare disciplines. She became a Registered Nurse, after completing work at Santa Rosa Division of Nursing of Incarnate Word College in 1948. She became a Medical Records Technician in 1976 and qualified as an accountant after studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio from 1981 to 1983. Her forty-four year medical career began in 1948 as a Staff Nurse and then Administrator at Schotts Memorial Hospital in Poteet. In 1955 she became Hospital Administrator at Pleasanton Hospital and Clinic, where she also worked as Operating Room Supervisor, positions which she held until 1975. The next three years Kitty was the Office Manager for J.M. Faggard, M.D., in Pleasanton, served as a Nurse Consultant for Retama Manor for Geriatrics, Inc., Greeley, Colorado, and as Medical Records Technician for Mercy Hospital in Jourdanton. In 1978 she became the Assistant Hospital Administrator at Mercy Hospital and continued in that capacity at Tri-City Community Hospital (formerly Mercy Hospital) until 1987. She then became the Comptroller at Tri-City Hospital for a year and then Director of Electronic Data Processing and Staff Accountant until her retirement in 1992. After retirement, Kitty remained active and volunteered her talents at healthcare facilities, community organizations, and the Catholic Church. She was a member of the American Nurses Association, The Texas Nurses Association, the American Hospital Association, and the Texas Hospital Association, and the Atascosa County Hospital Association Board of Directors, where she served as Secretary-treasurer. She was recognized by Who’s Who of American Women and by Personalities of the South. Kitty was always active in her Catholic Church in many capacities. She served as a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church’s first Pastoral Council. She also served as a member of the San Antonio Archdiocese Forum on the Catechumenate and a member of the Pleasanton Deanery Pastoral Council. She was currently a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Jourdanton, where she volunteered in numerous capacities and parish activities. She was also a long-time volunteer with the Atascosa County Christmas Elf Project Target (ACCEPT), where she was on the Steering Committee and helped provide services for Atascosa County families during Christmas Holidays. Kitty was an energetic, generous, caring, and compassionate lady, who always gave of herself to her family, friends, Church, profession, and community. She rarely thought of herself, but always sought ways to help others. Her gentle smile and humor made friends of everyone she met. She was truly a guardian “angel” among us. Kitty’s family would like to recognize, with love and appreciation, the exceptional and considerate healthcare that was provided to her by her physician and the doctors, surgeons, nurses, technicians, and support staff at University Hospital in San Antonio. They all fell in love with Kitty and treated her with competency and compassion, during her stay in their care. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Jourdanton. A Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, with interment to follow at St. Matthew’s Catholic Cemetery.
