DAUGHTER OF FIRST NOLAN SHERIFF DIES Sweetwater - Mrs. Ruby Sanders, 81, a lifelong resident of Nolan County, died at 6 a.m. Friday at her home at 524 Locust Street. Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Cate-Spencer Funeral Home Chapel with Preston Cotham, minister of the Fourth & Elm St. Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery in the Montgomery plot. Born Sept. 19, 1886 on a ranch south of Sweetwater, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Montgomery, pioneer settlers of Nolan County. Her father was the first sheriff of Nolan County. She married Carroll Sanders on Aug. 22, 1905. She was the first music teacher at Gail, in Borden County, where she held her first teaching position at the age of 17. She later taught music at Palava in the early days and formed an orchestra of violins and guitar musicians in that community. She later taught private lessons in Sweetwater. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Butts and Miss Fay Sanders, both of Sweetwater; one son, Elton Sanders of Lockhart; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be A. C. Morton, O. M. (Bill) Scott, T. O. Washburn, Baxter Farris, Roy DeBusk and Wayne Boyd.
