George Nicolai was born in Germany and came to America with his parents, brother and 3 sisters in 1866 when George was less than 2 months old. The Family left Bremen, Germany Oct 14, 1866 and sailed to America via Southampton, England on the SS Deutschland (1866) and arrived in New York, probably processed through Castle Gardens in New York, Oct 29, 1866. They settled in Pittsburgh, PA until 1879 when the family moved to Nebraska. George married Lydia M Corey, Jan 14, 1894 and they had two sons, Leo Mathew Nicolai and George Elmer Nicolai. George Nicolai was an expert Trap Shooter and won many awards over the years for his sharp shooting skills. He also invented and was granted a patent on his improved Target Trap for throwing clay targets.
